The Chicago Bears are coming off a disappointing 3-13 season.
There’s no question the franchise is still a few years away from contending, but who can deny them the chance to even dream about it? After all, they do have a star offensive player in Alshon Jeffery. The talented receiver, however, will be a free agent once the FA period begins. And there are several teams that could use him.
Here are four teams that could use Jeffery ahead of the 2017 season.
Chicago Bears: This one seems like an obvious choice, right? The Bears are moving on from Jay Cutler, but they need to maintain a player like Jeffery. They are already set in the running game with Jordan Howard and Jeremy Langford. And Jeffery would maintain his role as the top option in Chicago’s passing game. We are sure the Bears will do everything in their power to keep Jeffery on the roster, and they might give him the franchise tag if they have to.
Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles need as many receivers as they can get. The Eagles interest in receivers should not be surprising, as their starting set of outside receivers last season — Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham — were among the worst in the league. And Jeffery would automatically become the top option in the passing game. He would esentially fill the same role he had in Chicago. But the main difference is that the Eagles have the tools to contend this next season. And we can’t deny that Jeffery’s presence could help Carson Wentz’s development.
Minnesota Vikings: Okay this one is a bit more strange. After all, the Vikings already have a number one wideout in Stefon Diggs. But Minnesota clearly needs as many weapons as they can get on offense. Let’s not forget their situation with Adrian Peterson and the running game is far from settled. So they really need another threat and Jeffery would fit the ball. He would give the Vikings two receivers that can cause havoc on any secondary. And Jeffery has already seen the role of being the first and second receiver on a team. He would represent an instant upgrade to an offense that needs to play better in 2017.
Los Angeles Rams: The final choice is a team that’s in desperate need of some offense. Todd Gurley’s presence means they are on the running game, but their passing attack is another story. Kenny Britt had some decent games, but he’s not a number-one receiver. Tavon Austin fits better as a return specialist. And Brian Quick is a complementary weapon, not a go-to-guy. Jeffery would solve all of the franchise’s problems on the passing game, and just like it might happen with the Eagles, he could help in Jared Goff’s development. Plus, who wouldn’t like to play as the star in a big market such as LA ?
