Liverpool marches on. But could Balotelli be headed to the MLS? - The Reds Roundup for March 5, 2015

Liverpool have bounced back from their Europa League exit to take down Manchester City and Burnley in impressive fashion. Goals are coming in from everywhere, with beauties from Coutinho, Henderson (x2!) and Sturridge all featuring on the scoresheet in the recent wins. Sturridge has made his way back into the starting line-up, but Rodgers refuses to push him too hard after his return form multiple injuries.

Dude – Stop praying. The game just restarted, let’s go!

Man City:

We already covered the Man City dismantling in this week’s BPL review, but this obviously was a huge for the Reds and it couldn’t have come at a better time as the race for the top 4 is just starting to heat up.

There’s really nothing more you can say about this game other than the Reds showed an incredible amount of heart, and both goals were 2 of the best of the season. The only goal that was better than Coutinho’s goal from this week may be Coutinho’s goal from last week. The goal was so good, it has been officially characterized as Pure Filth. What’s more impressive is that the squad that started that game was an incredibly young one, with 7 players aged 24 or younger. It was a great show from a team that still has a lot of potential.

Ballin’ against Burnley:

The Reds were able to bounce back from a short turnaround after the Istanbul trip for the Man City game, but it was another quick turnaround prior to taking on Burnley on Wednesday. They’ve now played 3 games in the past 7 days, but it really didn’t show in this game as they put in a complete performance vs. Burnley. They had multiple chances in the first half, and in the 29th it was Jordan Henderson with a great strike after Coutinho had his shot blocked. Henderson has been playing great these past few weeks, and he was the provider for the second goal after some great control play from Lallana. Six minutes into the second half, Henderson was able to find Sturridge with a long cross and Sturridge slipped the header past the keeper before he could get all the way across the net. It was a great second goal and an even better team performance from Liverpool, and if it wasn’t for a late Man United goal, the Reds would have been tied with them for the final Champions League spot. There are a lot of games left in this season, but it looks like none are more important than the Liverpool vs. United Matchup in Anfield on March 22nd. That one is going to be huge.

FA Cup Preview

It’s FA Cup action again 🙂 . And it’s our last chance for a trophy this season 🙁 . Adding to the drama/magic of the FA cup is the fact that Arsenal and United are playing each other this round which means one of those teams will be eliminated before the semifinals. Liverpool face Blackburn Rovers (who sit at 11th in the Championship) but this is obviously not a time to take anyone lightly. This game could mark the return of Stephen Gerrard from injury and the Anfield crowd will no doubt be rocking as the Reds continue their mission to get Gerrard to Wembley in what is sadly his final season.

Around the interwebs:

  • The injury bug continues. Ibe out  for 4 weeks.
  • Balotelli continues to shine…in practice.
  • And here’s Ballotelli taking the passive aggressive approach with Rodgers.
  • Therefore, See you in sunny Orlando, Mario (editor’s note: really?)
