The cleanest Diego Costa play from Tuesday’s loss
Ruminating on the Chelsea loss:
This was a tough one lads. We should have come into this game up 2-1, but it was not in the cards. Costa should have been sent off within the first 5 minutes, but it was not in the cards. Gerrard thought we’d be battling for the title this season, but it was not in the cards. It’s been a tough season. One that has been filled with ups and downs. But anyone that has watched Liverpool’s performance over the past few weeks (especially these Chelsea games) has to be excited for the future. The new signings continue to impress, new deals for Coutinho and Sterling are on the horizon (fingers crossed) and Sturridge could be back in action as soon as this weekend. Mignolet has also turned the corner recently and made 2 amazing saves in Tuesday’s loss. In the first one, he made a kick save after a wicked deflection inside the 6 yard box. Shortly after, with Costa coming in on a 1 v 0, Mignolet somehow got a foot to the ball to keep the Reds’ hopes alive. Even if Liverpool brings in another keeper, Mignolet is not going to give his starting spot up so easily, and it’s looking like the Brad Jones scare did the trick. Balotelli also didn’t play horrible, but he should still be sold for as much as we can get for him as he is lazy, selfish and can’t hit the net if his life depended on it. He had some good plays in his 40+ minutes at Stanford Bridge, but on his only good chance to put one on net, he skied it so high that it may have landed in the parking lot.
Game previews:
- Liverpool vs. West Ham – Saturday, 1/31 @ 10:00am EST
- Liverpool @ Bolton – Wednesday, 2/4 @ 2:45pm EST
Liverpool has West Ham on Saturday, and then the second leg of the FA cup at Bolton on Wednesday. It’s two tough match ups for the Reds in a February that is looking like it will be the toughest month of the season. This is the month that will decide if we’ll be in the top 4 at the end, and it’s also the time to see what type of heart is in a lot of these new signings. We’ll know on Friday if Sturridge will be suiting up for the games and the fact that West Ham is one place (and only one point) above the Reds has to be motivation to go for the win. After that, it’s a trip to Bolton to try and secure their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup. If the Reds advance, it’s an away trip to Crystal Palace, and this tournament has already been filled with upsets so the Reds need to make sure they take everything one game at a time with such a tough road ahead. C’mon you Reds!
