The Return of SAS (Sturridge and Sterling): The Reds Roundup for Jan 15, 2015

Points at Sunderland:

Liverpool showed a lot of heart and a lot of progress in the game against Sunderland, a game they should have won 3 or 4 to nil. Fortunately, an early goal from Markovic was enough, and great performances by the young Serbian and Emre Can have started to push this team in the right direction. Unfortunately, Gerrard picked up a (hopefully) minor injury in this game and Lallana has also been sidelined, so it’s a good thing some of these new signings have started to step their game up for the Reds (pay attention Balotelli). Hopefully they can continue this run of good form as the weeks ahead get a little tricky, and February’s schedule is a nightmare. Along with a trip to Istanbul to take on Besiktas, the Reds take on Everton, Tottenham, Southampton and Man City in 4 successive weeks.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa (Saturday Jan 17 @ 10:00 am EST):

Liverpool will be looking for revenge in this one after suffering a tough 1-0 loss against Villa in September. Villa sits a few spots behind the Reds, but with a rough road ahead this is another must win for Liverpool. Hopefully they are not already looking ahead to the Capital One Cup semis against Chelsea, as that game is coming up this Tuesday and Mourinho is looking to win trophies on trophies this season (and he has the team to do it). The best news for Liverpool is that Sturridge and Sterling are both back in training, but who knows when they will lace up their boots next. Rumor has it, Jordan Ibe may be back with the Reds for this one as well!

Liverpool vs Chelsea (Tuesday Jan 20 @ 2:45 pm EST):

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! That about sums up my feelings for this one. See you at Anfield.

Around the interwebs:

  • Liverpool’s (ugly) new kits have been leaked.
  • Could Arbeloa be heading back to Liverpool?
  • Liverpool are targeting Higuain, but a Lavezzi deal may already be in the works.
  • Lambert is wanted around the league, but it looks like he’s not going anywhere.
  • Looks like Borini and Balotelli are both staying as well.
  • But Jose Enrique could be headed out on loan.
  • Sterling looks to be signing a new deal…once he was assured that Rodgers is staying!
  • The goalie signing rumors continue. Next on the list, Australia’s Matthew Ryan
