Gerrard’s Final Home Stand – The Reds Roundup for May 14, 2015

It’s back to the Euro League for Liverpool as a 1-1 tie was not enough to keep them in the hunt for the fourth Champions League spot. Gerrard heads into his final home game with the Reds as Rodgers starts to contemplate how the team could line-up next season.

Just got a little….dust in my eye

Chelsea tie

As predicted, Liverpool played Chelsea close once again, but in the end they were not able to get the win that would have kept them in contention for the Champions League. The game could have been quite different as it looked like Cesc Fabregas should have been sent off in the opening minutes for a late tackle on Raheem Sterling. The ref even started to pull out his red card and went to John Obi Mikel, but after realizing his mistake for some reason he only gave Fabregas a yellow. He should have seen another yellow later in the game for pulling Sterling down when he was making a break up the sideline, but the Reds were just not getting the calls this game. It’s looking like Liverpool are a lock for the Euro tourney next year, so it’s a blessing and a curse as they’ll need to travel to play some Thursday night games which always creative potential issues with player fitness. Hopefully the Reds can pick up a few needed pieces in the offseason as the top 4 all look pretty solid and will continue to spend boatloads of cash in the coming seasons.

Crystal Palace on Saturday

It’s a sad day for Liverpool fans as Stevie G will walk out of the Liverpool Locker room for the last time (maybe he’ll be back as a manager?). In these last few games, he’s still been able to display some of the magic that helped him lead Liverpool for the better part of my lifetime, so fingers crossed he gets a chance to score one last screamer in front of the Kop. It will be weird to see the team without Stevie G at the helm, and who knows how we’ll be lining up next season. There’s only 2 more games left this year, so hopefully the lads will be able to get up for them. Fortunately this one is a late start for everyone on the East Coast, so rest up and get ready to say your farewells to Stevie G. sniff. :'(
