Last night, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley had the scare of a lifetime. In the second inning, the 22 year old rookie tossed a curveball over the plate. Carlos Gomez sent the flying back towards Bradley at 115 mph where it struck him above the jaw.
Bradley was immediately taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where it was determined he suffered some injury to his sinus cavity, but comparatively speaking he was a lucky man. He Facetimed his mother from the hospital to let her know that he was going to be ok.
Pretty ugly huh? In all Seriousness tho thanks for the text, tweets and prayers! Could have been a lot worse! #lucky pic.twitter.com/NasQBYWqkz

While it must have been a scary sight for Mama Bradley, Archie was OK enough to return to the clubhouse as his teammates were piling in from their 12-5 win. Bradley requested that no photos be taken, but seemed to be in good spirits stating:
“It’s not pretty to look in the mirror right now, I’ll tell you that. You know it’s part of the game. Obviously you hate to see it. It hurt pretty bad. It doesn’t bother me to watch the replay. I’ve seen it 15, 20 times now. After watching it, it could have easily got me in the eye or directly in the face. I’ve got to think the Lord above is watching over me.”
Carlos Gomez was visibly less chipper, reflecting on the entire incident as a nightmare.
