America may love an underdog story, but they will turn on the underdog just as quickly. The past two seasons have seen the Cinderella-esque Kansas City Royals come within inches of winning it all. But it appears there is only a short window before all that glory goes to a team’s head and you’ve got something like the 2015 Kansas City Royals on your hands.
Yordano Ventura is an unbelievable talent, there is no doubt about that. Unfortunately, his hot-headed nature also is without question.
Less than a month into the season and already Ventura has had issues with Mike Trout and Brett Lawrie. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that last night’s Royals/White Sox matchup featured an insane 7th inning bench clearing fight with Ventura at its center.
Tensions were already high coming into the 7th inning. Ventura had pegged Jose Abreu in the fourth inning. The Royals countered when Chris Sale plunked Mike Moustakas in the fifth inning. Adam Eaton stepped up to the plate in the 7th inning and grounded the ball right back at Ventura. Television replays appear to show Yordano dropping the F-bomb all over Eaton as he tossed the ball for the putout at first.
Adam Eaton did not take too kindly to Ventura’s expletive and went right back at him. The umpires were able to hold back Eaton and Ventura but had little leverage to stop the onslaught of players who scrambled off the benches ready to brawl.
When the dust cleared, White Sox Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzia were tossed along with Royals Ventura, Lorenzo Cain, And Edinson Volquez. Both Eaton and Ventura expressed their remorse after the game, but it is harder to buy from Ventura when the hits just keep on coming.
Trevor Bauer may have put it best, but it seems right now very little keeps Yordana Ventura happy. Let’s just hope no one accuses him of using pine tar.
I don’t know about y’all but I’m usually happy when I get a ground ball back to mound.
