Falcao, Pjanic, Benzema and Walcott to Liverpool? Probably just rumors…Right? – The Reds Roundup for 4/2/2015

The EPL is back! Liverpool look to overcome a tough loss to United as they take on perennial #4, Arsenal, in Saturday’s early morning kickoff. Transfer rumors have also swung into full crazy mode with some of the most ludicrous rumors included below.

Transfer BS:

In the past few weeks, you must have noticed the ridiculous amount of transfer rumors that have surrounded Liverpool and their potential targets. We here at SFTB have counted no fewer than 15 players that could be headed to Merseyside including Falcao, Pjanic, Benzema, Theo Walcott, Arbeloa, MilnerCarvalho and Memphis Depay (just to name a few). While we’d love to see one or two of those superstars head over this summer, these are the same papers that say Ronaldo is headed to City, Ibra is headed to United and Bale is headed to Chelsea (not even going to include the one about Oscar heading to Liverpool). You can’t trust any rumors right now, including the one about Sterling rejecting a new contract worth £180K/week. Hopefully he’s seeing the same article and would actually sign for that crazy amount, but we’re thinking he’s more in line for £150K/week, which is the same amount that Sturridge’s new contract is for. Sterling says he’s in it more for the trophies than the money, but we’ll most likely have to wait until this summer to see exactly what he means by this. Brendan Rodgers sure doesn’t seem concerned, so maybe we shouldn’t be panicking either.

Ready for Arsenal:

After a tough loss to United, we’re not really sure if the international break was really a break at all for the Liverpool first team. It looks like whoever wasn’t called up on international duty played in Gerrard’s charity match, but hopefully everyone had a bit of time to unwind, since we find ourselves in another tough, must win situation. Even with a win, Liverpool would remain outside of the top 4, but it would be a strong statement from a team that has looked both like world beaters and bottom feeders at different points of this season. Gerrard and Skrtel are suspended for the next 3 and Lallana and Sturridge are most likely out for this one (although Rodgers is pushing Sturridge to be ready). Sterling may be fit for this one, but Ibe looks like he’ll be spending some more time in the training room before he’s back to full fitness. Lucas should be back (maybe even starting with Gerrard out) but with all these missing starters, it’s a rough way to go into an important game. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and our shots low. Come on you Reds!
