Balotelli Nets His First EPL Goal and Liverpool Valentine’s Day Cards: The Reds Roundup for Feb 12

Balotelli nets his first EPL goal for Liverpool in a 3-2 win over Tottenham…but Stevie G and Lucas look to be out for an extended period of time. Will Sterling be able to make his way back from injury in time to save this year’s Champions League spot?

All Business Balotelli

An Everton Lull and a Spurs Barnburner:

It was a tough 0-0 draw vs. Everton, a game which had its share of on field flare ups but unfortunately no goals. Ibe had the best chance on a 50 yard run-and-shoot that pinged off the outside of the post in the first half, but that was probably the best chance for either side. Mignolet continued his shutout streak during this game….until he ran into the beast of the Spurs – Harry Kane. This dude is on fire! Real Madrid checking him out fire! He’s been pipped for an England call up and I think even Tottenham fans are wondering where the hell this guy came from. Probably too early to be headed to Los Blancos, but it’s never a bad sign if they have their eye on you. The Tottenham game was a great battle and fortunately Liverpool came out on top. The Spurs came back twice, but somehow Mario Balotelli became the Reds’ savior and if Liverpool actually does make it into the top 4, this one goal makes him worth every cent (well, no. but it’s still a huge win). Sorry this guy.

The week ahead:

The FA Cup is back (thankfully with Liverpool still in it) and this weekend Liverpool head over to Selhurst Park on Valentine’s Day (Awwwww) for fifth round action. Hopefully Liverpool is still flying high after the Tottenham game and can keep the momentum going in this non-EPL matchup. No one wants to play FA Cup replays, so we need the team to knock a few goals in early so we can get this round out of the way.

Following this weekend’s FA cup tie is our first Europa League match of the year against Besiktas (at Anfieid) and next weekend is a very important EPL game against Southampton. It’s a string of important games for the Reds (who kick off March at home against Man City) and we’re going to need all hands on deck for these next couple of weeks. We need Sterling back on the field with Sturridge ASAP!  C’mon you Reds!
