The Brooklyn Nets Are An Absolute Disaster

The Brooklyn Nets have been the poster child of mediocrity during the last few seasons.

Ever since they decided to trade for an aging duo of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, they’ve been on a spiral downwards. But this year things have gotten worse, and they’ve been one of the worst teams in the league. So much that they can be considered an absolute disaster.

Yes, I said it. And there’s no way to sugarcoat it. There’s an absolute disaster, and they need to do something. Otherwise, they risk being a mediocre franchise for the next five to ten years.

First, let’s start looking at the numbers. This season Brooklyn has a 9-39 record, by far the worst in The Association. Obviously that’s not good, but the bad records have been a trend for quite a while now.

Things doesn’t get any better if we start analyzing the roster. Guys like Brook Lopez, Bojan Bogdanovic and Sean Kilpatrick have performed at a decent level, but the rest of the team has struggled badly. At times the team doesn’t even look like a competent NBA team. Poor decisions, bad execution and amateurish mistakes are some of the reasons why the Nets have been so bad this year.

Finally, the coaching staff deserves some of the blame, too. But who could win when such a thin roster. So it’s really the management’s fault. They haven’t been able to put a productive team on the floor in recent years, and maybe that’s why the Nets also rank near the bottom of the league in attendance.

But what does the future hold for the Nets? Around 15 years ago they were a title contender, and right now they can’t even string a few wins together. But things should improve in the upcoming years. The first thing they need to do is to lose as many games as possible – that way their chances to get a higher draft pick will increase. And the draft picks are something Brooklyn needs to treasure even more than players.

Speaking of draft picks, they have to trade as many guys as possible. Lopez and Bogdanovic should have decent value on the trade market before the deadline. And even Sean Kilpatrick could generate interest as well.

As we said before, Brooklyn needs to do something. This season is already over for them, but the sooner they can re-tool the roster, the sooner they will return to be a respectable franchise in the NBA. And that’s something the league needs, considering how big of a market New York is.
